Description
1. Environmental Protection
Sodium bentonite is an eco-friendly material for environmental protection and water treatment. With strong adsorption, swelling, and ion exchange properties, it helps capture heavy metals, oil, organic pollutants, and suspended solids while reducing secondary pollution risks.
2. Wastewater Treatment
In wastewater treatment, sodium bentonite adsorbs heavy metal ions and organic contaminants through ion exchange and surface adsorption. It also supports flocculation and sedimentation, helping improve water clarity in industrial, agricultural, and municipal wastewater systems.
3. Oil Absorption
For oil spill remediation, modified sodium bentonite can adsorb oil and hydrocarbons while limiting water uptake. It can be used as powder, granules, absorbent media, or filtration material for oil-contaminated soil, water, and industrial wastewater.
4. Landfill Liner Systems
In landfill liners and GCL systems, sodium bentonite hydrates and swells to form a dense, low-permeability barrier. It helps block leachate migration, protect soil and groundwater, and self-seal minor cracks or punctures for long-term containment.
High-Efficiency Adsorption Performance: Features large specific surface area (≥550 m²/g) and high cation exchange capacity (CEC ≥80 meq/100g), enabling selective adsorption of heavy metals (Pb²⁺, Cd²⁺, Cr⁶⁺), oil hydrocarbons, and organic pollutants with removal rates ≥95%; surface-modified variants enhance hydrophobicity for targeted oil-water separation.
Impermeable Containment & Leak Prevention: Hydration-induced swelling (15–20x dry volume) forms a dense barrier with ultra-low permeability (≤1×10⁻⁹ cm/s), effectively blocking leachate and contaminant migration in landfill liners or waste containment systems; self-heals minor cracks to maintain long-term sealing integrity.
Eco-Compatible & Process-Adaptable: Non-toxic, biodegradable, and chemically stable (pH 3–11 tolerance), avoiding secondary environmental pollution; available in powder/granular/composite forms for flexible application in wastewater treatment, spill remediation, or landfill engineering; low addition rates and simple operation ensure cost-effectiveness for large-scale environmental projects.
Sodium bentonite excels in environmental protection and water treatment with distinct core advantages. Its high specific surface area and cation exchange capacity enable efficient adsorption of heavy metals (removal rate ≥98%), oil, and organic pollutants. It forms an impermeable barrier via hydration swelling, ideal for landfill liners and leak prevention. Non-toxic, biodegradable, and eco-friendly, it avoids secondary pollution. Cost-effective with abundant reserves, it requires low addition rates and simple application (powder/granular/composite forms). Compatible with various treatment systems, it ensures reliable performance across pH 3–11, making it a sustainable solution for wastewater purification, pollution remediation, and environmental containment.
